[Guide] How to Play Darkfall: Unholy Wars F2P

Now that Aventurine has shut down Darkfall: Unholy Wars server indefinitely many of you still don't know that there's still DF:UW alive. Yep, DF:UW Asia (http://darkfall.mgame.jp) is still there up and running under MGame's hand. And Yes, you can play DF:UW Asia in English. They are using Free to Play models which features a cash shop, which everything there are just convenience items (faster craft time, faster recall channeling, etc) and cosmetics (Samurai costumes, stupid headgear), so don't worry no p2w.

Here is what you need, and in this guide I will guide you to get everything set up.

1. VPN (For weird reason MGame did not block my IP, I could even play the game without even using the VPN. But some people reported to me that he got weird page showing a cat, so I can assume there's IP Block. So you'll need VPN)
2. Yahoo! Japan ID
3. Little bit of Hiragana knowledge

Update: DF:UW JP/KR currently does not support Windows 10. This is due to GameGuardused by the client does not recognize Windows 10. I don't know any fix on this except using previous windows.

1. Setting up SoftEther
You can SKIP this step if you already have your own VPN (that has JP/KR server). Otherwise you can follow mine.

Download SoftEther VPN Client for Windows here.  If you want to use different version, just open their download page http://www.softether-download.com/en.aspx?product=softether and pick the one you want.

Once you have it installed, open the SoftEther VPN Client, and create a new adapter

Name it "VPN"

Click OK and you should see something like this

To connect to the VPN server, double click the "VPN Gate Public VPN Relay Servers". The list of available servers will be shown up.

Choose one that you like, preferably the one that is located in Japan region, click "Connect to the VPN Server", when asked choose "Use TCP Protocol (Ethernet over HTTPS VPN)" then click OK.

If you see something like above^ that means you have connected to the server you choosed. You can check your IP on IP2Location and now you should see you are now connecting from Japanese server.

Else, If you see the message saying "CONNECTING" eternally, that means the server is not working. Click cancel, disconnect from that one and just choose another servers. Repeat until you find one you can connect to.



2. Registering Yahoo! Japan ID
You will need a Yahoo JP ID to log into the MGame's. You can create Yahoo! Japan ID via this page: https://account.edit.yahoo.co.jp/registration?.src=acct&.done=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.yahoo.co.jp&no_req_email=true

Just fill it with your own. As for Postal Code you can't fill it randomly, need to be actual Japanese Postal Code, Grab one here http://yubin.senmon.net/en/10/10383.html, this one is mine you can use it as example : http://i.imgur.com/HuEJ480.png

Now for the hardest part. The Captcha Test! Not ordinary captcha test, but Hiragana test. You're on your own here, you need invest 15 minutes learn hiragana, and pass the test on your own. Or you can join the Discord I've created here: https://discord.gg/7Z7vS8m paste me the image of the captcha on the channel and I will help you (If I am online). You need to fill the form fast, or it will timed out and you need to redo your registration again.

( Another tips is to use Google Translate Handwriting http://i.imgur.com/hSuOQ62.png and just draw the characters there )

If you see something like this http://i.imgur.com/wTXjCRp.png that means the registration is almost finished, tick the box on the bottom and click the button to finish your registration.


3. Registering your MGame account using Yahoo! JAPAN ID
Now you have Yahoo! Japan ID and VPN set up, now it's time to login to the game site and register an account. Open the site here http://darkfall.mgame.jp and click the LOGIN button

It will throw you to the Login page, click that Yahoo! JAPAN ID button

You will see something like this, enter your Yahoo! account info and press that Yellow button

Click the yellow button again to grant permission

It will ask for your nickname and email address, fill it and press the green button below.

Last step, and finish. Just click those green buttons whenever you see one

If you see something like this, that means you have successfully created a MGame account. Next time you want to login, all you need to do is just click the login button and login using your "Yahoo JAPAN ID"

4. Downloading and Installing the DF:UW Client
Now to download the client, click that DOWNLOAD button ^.

When download is finished, double click the installer and just install as normal.
Important Note: During installing, please choose something that looks like 日本 or 日本語 whenever they asked you. Otherwise you will be installing Korean client, which they use their own Login site, we don't want that so stick to the Japanese version one.

Alright now it's the weird part, especially if you never installed any Asian MMORPG. The game is launched via the browser by accessing the official site, the browser then will triggers the Launcher program installed in your PC. So, open the DF:UW JP site http://darkfall.mgame.jp and click the GAME START button (note that you must have already logged in).

A message like this will appear,

It translated as: "To customers that does not use Internet Explorer, please download [mgamerjpSetup.exe] and install it. Once finished, press the button once more".

Basically it ask you to install their browser plugin if you are not using IE. I am using Mozilla Firefox,

PS: I have tested using Google Chrome, and it seems to be not working :/ Keep redownloading the mgamejpSetup.exe over and over eternally. So I suggest you use Mozilla Firefox as well.

Install [mgamerjpSetup.exe] and when it's done, close all your browsers and reopen. Once more, open the DF:UW JP site http://darkfall.mgame.jp and click the GAME START button, it will ask for permission

Click Allow -> Allow and Remember.

^^ If you can't see something like that above, open your Add-On settings page in Firefox, open the Plugins tab, and make sure to choose "Always Activate"

Now click the GAME START button, again... and the Darkfall Unholy Wars launcher should open with loud music.

^IF IT DOES NOT WORK^
Or for whatever reason it just wont work, launcher won't appear, etc. Go open your Internet Explorer (NOT Microsoft Edge), login to the site http://darkfall.mgame.jp and press the GAME START button there. It should invoke the DFUW launcher installed in your PC.

Let the launcher do it's job until it finishes downloading the client.


5. Changing The Interface to English
After the patching process finished, click the play button

Now to change the interface from Japanese to english is Easy, follow the steps below.

Frequently Asked Questions

I tried to access darkfall.mgame.jp but it gave me a picture of a cat!

This is a standard, "Server is busy, try again later" thingy. But actually it means that you are probably IP blocked. Make sure you are under Japanese IP, and if it still blocks you even though you are under Japanese IP, it's likely the JP IP you are using are too public and used too often (and abused) by many people and got placed on their ban list because of that.

How is the Population?
I'd say Low pop. During levelling up I see people crafting stuffs here and there, and saw another new dude farming on goblin spawn. The global chat moves, but not that fast. That's it

How is the Ping?
I'm playing from Indonesia. The server is located in South Korea. My ping is around 185-200 and it's certainly playable.
